The fund seeks to track, to the extent reasonably possible and before fees and expenses, the performance of a broad Canadian equity index that measures the investment return of common stocks of Canadian companies that are characterized by high dividend yield.
Currently, this Vanguard ETF seeks to track the FTSE Canada High Dividend Yield Index (or any successor thereto).
It invests primarily in common stocks of Canadian companies that pay dividends.
The FTSE Canada High Dividend Yield Index comprises stocks that are characterized by higher than- average dividend yields.
The index universe is based on the large, mid and small cap constituents of the Canada country component of the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS).
The Ground Rules for GEIS also form the basis for the management of the FTSE Canada High Dividend Yield Index.
Real estate investment trusts (REITS), whose income may not qualify for favorable tax treatment are removed from the index universe, as are stocks that are not forecast to pay a dividend during the next 12 months.
The remaining stocks are ranked by annual dividend yield and included in the target index until the cumulative market capitalization reaches 50% of the total market cap of this universe of stocks.
