The fund seeks to provide long-term capital growth by replicating, to the extent possible, the performance of the MSCI All Country World Minimum Volatility Index (USD), net of expenses.
The investment strategy of XMW is to invest primarily in shares of a U.S. iShares Fund (iShares MSCI All Country World Minimum Volatility Index Fund) that seeks investment results that correspond generally to the applicable index. The iShares MSCI All Country World Minimum Volatility Index Fund is also known as the iShares MSCI Global Minimum Volatility ETF.
The MSCI ACWI Minimum Volatility Index measures the performance of equity securities in both emerging and developed markets that have lower volatility relative to the equity securities included in the MSCI All Country World Index.
The index aims to reflect the performance characteristics of a minimum variance strategy applied to large and mid cap equities across 45 Developed Markets (DM) and Emerging Markets (EM) countries.
The index is calculated by optimizing the MSCI ACWI Index, its parent index, in USD for the lowest absolute risk (within a given set of constraints).
Historically, the index has shown lower beta and volatility characteristics relative to the MSCI ACWI Index.
